Child abduction 2025
Example of Successful Child Abduction Case Handling
At Greenwich Virtual Legal Consultants, we pride ourselves on our ability to handle complex family law matters, including child abduction cases. One of our key successes involved a challenging child abduction case where we worked with a mother seeking to bring her children back to the UK after they were wrongfully removed and retained in Lithuania by their father.
In this case, we were responsible for full conduct of the matter, working tirelessly to navigate the intricacies of the Hague Convention and international family law. Despite challenges posed by the opposing party’s claims, including the wrongful application for a return order, we effectively demonstrated the children's habitual residence in the UK through a combination of school records, GP documentation, and evidence from foreign jurisdictions.
Our ability to advocate for our client’s best interests led to a positive outcome, securing the child’s return to the UK and challenging attempts to extend parental contact in circumstances that could have been detrimental to the child's well-being.
This case exemplifies our deep understanding of family law, commitment to protecting the rights of children, and ability to navigate international legal frameworks. Whether you are dealing with a similar child abduction situation or any other family law matter, we are here to provide the expert legal support you need.
Beyond the ordinary
International Child Abduction: Defending Against a Hague Return Application
We recently managed a complex and unusual international child abduction matter under the Hague Convention, which required urgent action and strategic expertise. In this case, the child had initially been abducted from the UK by the father and taken to Lithuania. The mother later succeeded in returning the child to the UK.
Subsequently, the father initiated Hague proceedings in the High Court of England and Wales, seeking the child’s return to Lithuania and alleging that the mother had wrongfully removed the child. We successfully defended the application by evidencing that the child was habitually resident in the UK prior to the abduction, including comprehensive school and medical records, and supporting documentation from the Lithuanian courts, which had also recognised the UK as the child’s habitual residence.
The High court dismissed the father's application and discharged interim contact arrangements. This case demonstrates our ability to act swiftly and effectively in cross-border disputes, and our commitment to safeguarding the welfare of children in international family law matters.

Standing Up for a Male Survivor of Abuse
Our client approached us after being forced out of the family home by his wife of 20 years, along with their teenage son. He had endured years of physical, verbal, financial, and psychological abuse but, like many male victims, did not initially recognise his experiences as domestic abuse.
With our guidance and support, he came to understand the abuse he had suffered and his legal rights. We acted swiftly to protect him and successfully obtained a non-molestation order, safeguarding him from further harm because it is our experience that the perpetrator of the abuse will often attempt to turn the tables and blame the victim, making an application for protection themselves. As we anticipated, the wife's legal team did in deed make an application for a non molestation order against our client after us.
The case continued to present challenges. The court granted his wife a mirror non molestation order and the occupation order following her submission of medical evidence regarding her mental health issues which was that she suffered from ADHD, and a standard DV letter. Despite these complexities, we continued to represent our client’s interests with integrity, working through the legal system to ensure our client rights were protected throughout the process.
Mediation can help
Our client had been fighting for her share in a probate matter, but the family were fighting the Will for nearly 3 years. When she came to us, we convinced her that mediation would be the best way forward as litigation would cost her thousands. We prepared a mediation package for her which outlined the legal cases that we would be using if litigation went ahead. The cases we provided were so strong and compelling, that the other party backed down and agreed to her financial terms which was far more than she had expected.
